METRO INDONESIA PARTICIPATES IN THE "ISLAMIC FASHION FESTIVAL"
.
Kuala Lumpur, November 25, 2006 – METRO Department Store Indonesia is participating in the KL – Jakarta "Islamic Fashion Festival" (IFF), a collaboration of reputable Indonesian, Malaysian, and Pakistani fashion designers to promote Islamic fashion wear to an international audience to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center.
"It is a distinctive honor for METRO, as a representative of Indonesia, to be invited for this event. We believe the IFF event is a great opportunity for us, since we have the same objective with IFF, to create an effort for a better relationship, particularly in increasing economic cooperation between our two countries, Malaysia and Indonesia. Not only that, we are aiming to showcase our local potential Indonesian designers to the international audience in Malaysia so they can extend their creativity into Islamic ready-to-wear garments with their own signature style," explains Christine Barki, President Director of PT. Metropolitan Retailmart, a company that operates METRO Department Stores in Indonesia.
METRO, one of the leading fashion department stores in Indonesia, operates four stores, three in Jakarta and one in Bandung. Since 1991, METRO Department Store has been focusing its service to provide the latest and modern selections of fashion apparel, accessories, cosmetics, and home items. "Especially for our Moslem customers, we also provide various selections of complete Moslem apparel in our stores. We help them to be more fashionable and up-to-date while still upholding Islamic rules," says Christine Barki.
"For years, METRO has been supporting the development of Indonesia's fashion industry involving ourselves with several local fashion names. As a fashion retailer, one of METRO's priorities is our commitment to give real contribution to the fashion industry, providing them retail spaces in our stores." Over the years, METRO was also involved with several renowned designer shows, such as BIYAN and SEBASTIAN GUNAWAN. Recognizing their fine designs, METRO is showcasing both designers' collections to present new dimensions in Islamic wear.
At our invitation, these two well-known designers have made several special pieces by challenging themselves to explore and convert the perception of Moslem wear to be more modern and stylish. Christine Barki also added, "Participating in a mind-changing event is a great honor. But despite the religious background, we need to understand that the event is about fashion, beauty, talent, and rich cultures. This is why METRO Department Store decided to play a role in this event."
