Vintage Glamour
Fashion from the '70s and '80s return once more! Vintage is back, with leggings and tunics leading the way into the fashion world. Several vintage comebacks have made their way to this year's fall fashion line and onto the red carpet.
In the '80s, leggings were mostly worn with oversized t-shirts and were fashionable as workout clothes. In 2006, leggings are cut to capri length and are paired with miniskirt jeans, short shorts or knee length dresses. In spring 2006, teens started wearing leggings as a fashionable way to modestly cover their legs when wearing short-cut bottoms. Now, leggings are considered a back-to-school must-have! Leggings are loved because they create the illusion that the legs are thinner and longer. This year's fashion offerings are available in different prints, patterns, and solids. The most frequent pairings are solid colors with a jean miniskirt. For a punk rock look, a patterned miniskirt is coordinated with a patterned or crocheted legging. Celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Kirsten Dunst are often seen in leggings.
Another vintage fashion return is tunics, which have made a comeback as "boho-chic" becomes a popular new look. Boho-chic first became popular in the U.K. when actress and fashion setter Sienna Miller started dressing in this modern hippie-like style. By pairing white shirts, brown vests, daisy-duke shorts, and boots, Sienna skyrocketed boho-chic into fashion. The fashion found its way to the U.S. when celebrities such as Mary-Kate Olson and Keira Knightley began wearing boho-chic. Snug fitting tunics are just one example of the lovable boho-chic fashion, loved for their comfort and how they elongate the torso. Tunics are regularly matched with a pair of skinny jeans to create a long, hourglass look. Tunic lengths have influenced other items of clothing with tank tops and hoodies also being sold in longer lengths.
Other fashion blasts from the past such as Victorian style white lacy tops, vests, and wedge shoes are also gaining in popularity. Even celebrities embrace the vintage craze looking for red carpet couture dresses worn by actresses from the '50s through the '70s. Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston wore vintage creations to recent events, bringing back old Hollywood glamour.
